In the 1950's, a 14-year-old Swedish adventurer by the name of Ake Nordin realized the need for a more comfortable and stable backpack and thus Fjallraven was born. Day in and day out Ake found himself outside trekking through the Swedish mountains spending long periods of time exploring. The Backpacks & Bags of his day were incapable of providing comfort and stability, so Ake decided to create his own pack. Using a wooden frame to help distribute the weight, leather straps to make it more comfortable, and cotton canvas finish for a durable exterior, Ake created the first framed backpack.
In 1960 Ake's invention began to catch fire and lead to the creation of Fjallraven which was the first company to make and distribute these framed backpacks.
